Bridal gown tips – written by dress designer Robyn Roberts

Designing your Gown Designing your Gown

The most important tip is to make sure you try on wedding dresses before you decide on a particular style. Perfect lighting and extra seating for your Mom or best friend is most suitable. Your designer should be able to advise on skirt shape, neckline, colour and assist you with your fabric choice. Take along a pair of high heals.

Be aware when choosing a fabric colour, it should enhance your natural beauty.

Have a dress fitting during the week of your wedding, to make quite sure that no last minute alterations are necessary.

If you are traveling with your wedding dress, be sure to take it hand luggage, even if it means packing your dress into a box. Lost luggage may only be traced after your wedding day!

Choose your accessories toward the end of your dress fittings, when your dress has its detail added – preventing the temptation of overdoing the bling!

You are likely to be on your feet for 12 hours on the day, source comfortable shoes - medium or flat heel in leather.

Wear the necessary underwear at the fittings, to ensure accurate alterations to your dress.

A train on your gown always makes a beautiful entrance into the ceremony and can have ribbons added to tie it up for dancing.

Try not to choose a bouquet that overpowers the dress or your face in size or colour.
